Make Your Own Wine in Edmond, OK
Vintner's Cellar of Oklahoma in the Spring Creek Village shopping center at 15th Street and Bryant Avenue in Edmond, Oklahoma offers a way to give it a try.
Vintner's Cellar offers its customers a chance to make their own batch of wine with the help of a professional vintner. The cost of a batch ranges from $320 to $520 for about 30 bottles. How much you learn about winemaking is up to you!
The process takes six to eight weeks but you only really need to devote about 45 minutes on the first day. You can be as involved as you want to after that. Most folks also like to be on hand for the end of the process when the wine is bottled, corked and labeled.
They won't be the cheapest cases of wine you have ever bought, but the learning could be priceless!

Please call all these members of the House of Representatives Rules Committe today or in the morning of 2-20-2008. Ask them to support bill SJR29 in their Rules Committe vote tomarrow, 2-20-2008.

Western Region Director - Rusty Allard
Central Region Director - George Ingles
Eastern Region Director - Bob McBratney
Past President - Gary Butler
Stop by the Oklahoma Grape Growers & Wine Makers Association website and check out all of the new changes for 2008. The news is pretty interesting, heck I even picked up this cool Oklahoma grape growing tip from them:
As you prune this season think about saving the cane at each end of the cordons as late as you can. If a late freeze heads our way pruning the end cane can perhaps delay bud break a day or two. - OGGMWA
There are some changes to the dues and membership setup to check out. Regulatory reform proposals concerning direct sales and shipping will be voted on by our state officials again this year. Oklahoma wineries that were not able to send anyone to the annual meeting can find more information online here.

The SWRA Offers Free Help for Oklahoma Wineries
Most wine retailers that mention their wines online get requests for direct sales. Many use their websites to try and explain the rapidly changing, unclear and inconsistent list of what states they may ship to. A few of them explain why they won’t ship to certain states. If they bother to explain, it is usually through a cursory note that shipping wine is prohibited by law in Oklahoma or whatever other state 'protected' by the corrupt and obsolete three tier system.
It would do the consumer good to understand more about the restrictions that prohibit them from purchasing and having shipped a legal and healthy product like locally produced wine. To that end, The SWRA has put together some sample statements for retailers who want to give customers in states they can’t ship to a better understanding of their predicament. Retailers have SWRA’s permission to use any of the five explanations in their article with or without attribution to SWRA.
Five ways that Wine Retailers Should Send the Right Message from the SWRA.
Oklahoma winemakers, stifled from shipping their wines to the global market of wine consumers currently requesting shipments, may find this response options useful. They are certainly well worth a look.
